WHITNEY ON MESSENGER.png

Context:

After the Whitney Museum’s collection was born out of a failed donation of over 700 pieces to the Met, this collection has grown to encompass more than 23,000 works from over 3,500 important American Artists including Ed Ruscha, Alexander Calder, Edward Hooper, Carrie Mae Weems and many more.

Insight:

It’s a privilege to be able to access important artworks in the context of four-walled museum; however many art enthusiasts both internationally and local do not always have immediate access to either the museum, or the works by specific artists. While the collection is already online, why not bring the works to the social platforms we are already familiar with to discover and learn more about the artists, movements, and mediums they love?

Idea:

Facebook Messenger has been described as "The De facto white pages of messaging apps." The Whitney Museum is one of the leading institutions for contemporary art. By bringing their collection to the directory of a global messenger app, we stand to increase cultural literacy through letting users' discover artists' at their own pace.
